The unit of magnetic field is the Tesla, named after Nikola Tesla (visionary / genius / crazy / misunderstood et cetera). A company named after Tesla is Tesla Motors, who make the Tesla Roadster. Check this out:
- 100% electric
- 0-60 mph in 4 seconds
- Go 250 miles before re-charging (which takes 3.5 hrs)
- Top speed 130 mph
- Almost silent apart from wind / road noise
Read about the unveiling.
Yes, this is the most tenuous MRI-related post yet. But Tesla Motors state
“Without Tesla’s vision and brilliance, our car wouldn’t be possible.”
Surely there’s some common ground there? Would super-rich US-based readers please buy me one.
As Tesla himself is purported to have said:
“The spread of civilisation may be likened to a fire; first, a feeble spark, next a flickering flame, then a mighty blaze, ever increasing in speed and power.”
Now we can do that very fast, and very quietly. (And emission-free.)
